Why "DuckPin"? - Our Story

During the mid 20th century duckpin bowling was wildly popular, especially in the Northeast and Mid Atlantic states. On almost every night of the week, the local duckpin lanes would be full of the sounds of enthusiastic rollers trying to gain the most severe "pin action" in pursuit of an elusive (an still unrealized) perfect score of 300.

Our parents and grandparents were big-time league bowlers, and we spent more than a few hours of our childhood hunkered down at a table doing elementary school homework surrounded by the sights and sounds of fierce competition. Eventually we joined a junior league to give it a try, and many after school field trips ended up at the local duckpin alley.

Having names such as "Pinpath" and "Bowl-a-Rama", these palaces of sport, smoke, and questionable snack bar food are mostly long gone now.

The futuristic design of the architecture, patterns embedded in the carpet and snack bar counter, the shapely furniture, lighting fixtures, and even the Pointy People artwork on the pinball machines have influenced us all these years.  A pleasing paradox of smooth curves and acute angles.

So, when we decided we were going to build furniture influenced by designs of the mid-century, we looked back to a time and place we loved as children. Our goal is to create furniture of this time period, with a modern twist.

We call it "modern, mid-century".
